Jody Fontenot, DVM
Dr. Fontenot is a native of Jennings, Louisiana. He graduated from Jennings High School and then attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In 1996, Dr. Fontenot earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Fontenot’s journey in veterinary medicine started early in his life. He worked on his father’s rice and cattle farm from the age of six, and he still has cows on the same land today. He worked for a time on an offshore oil rig, and he worked at DuPont Veterinary Clinic. Following graduation, Dr. Fontenot worked in veterinary emergency services at the Lafayette Animal Emergency Clinic. He established Fontenot Animal Hospital and treated both large and small animals in Jefferson Davis Parish. He remained in solo practice for 21 years before adding his first associate in 2017.
Dr. Fontenot has a particular interest in orthopedic surgery as he finds it one of the more challenging aspects of veterinary medicine. He is a member of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA), the Jefferson Davis Parish Mosquito Abatement Board, and the Grand Marais Drainage District Board.
Dr. Fontenot has been married to his wife, Kristian, for 25 years. They have a son named Kade and a daughter named Jill. Their pet family includes five dogs, Murray, Poncho, Jack, Frank, and Annie, as well as one cat, Susan, two horses and lots of cows. In his free time, Dr Fontenot loves the ocean and enjoys offshore fishing with his family. He also finds joy in cooking and working on his farm.
