In-Clinic Diagnostics
The in-house diagnostic capability at Fontenot Animal Hospital provides pet owners in Jennings, Welsh, Lake Arthur, Elton, and the surrounding areas with on-site routine testing to determine your pet’s overall health.
Because some health conditions may not be obvious during an external examination, we recommend blood work at your pet’s annual check-up to provide a consistent record of your pet’s health history. Should any significant changes show up in the test results, we would be able to identify potential health issues before they become a major issue. We also conduct blood work screenings for pets who are scheduled for surgery to ensure there are no underlying issues that may result in complications.
Our in-house diagnostic capabilities enable us to conduct complete blood counts (CBCs), full chemistry panels, and test cortisol, progesterone levels, and phenobarbital levels. We also test for heartworms, and contagious diseases such as Parvo, feline leukemia virus (FeLV), and the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
Results from diagnostic testing can detect infection and anemia, determine electrolyte status and hydration levels, evaluate kidney, liver, and pancreas function, screen for thyroid disease, check blood sugar levels, and more. We can get same day results on many of our tests which means that our knowledgeable veterinarians have a better opportunity of giving you a diagnosis and starting treatment on the same day. That’s all the better for quickly getting your pet back to normal.
